What Are Super Lice?

The term "super lice" refers to lice that have become more resistant to chemical treatments over time. They are not a separate, stronger species of lice, but simply the everyday variety of lice with a better chance of surviving over-the-counter lice removal treatments. The population of lice has adapted to these treatments as lice that can resist these treatments have survived and become more prevalent.

How Does a Person Get Lice?

Lice can be transmitted from one head to another by simple contact. It is fairly common for children at school or daycare to spread lice as they play together. For this reason, it is important to keep your child at home and treat any case of lice immediately.

How Can I Tell If It's Head Lice?

The symptoms of head lice can be obvious. Itching across the scalp is a strong sign. This itch is typically the result of an allergic reaction to lice saliva. Cases of lice that go untreated could lead to extreme and excessive scratching that may cause an infection.

How You Can Identify Lice?

Lice are typically difficult to see, but that is not the case for the nits. Nits are the noticeable lice eggs which can appear white, tan or dark brown, depending upon the person's hair color. With a fine comb (or a nit comb) and proper lighting, you may be able to see nits and other signs of a lice infestation. Call Lice Clinics of Birmingham at 205.783.LICE (5423) for a thorough screening.
